Troy’s Ski Apparel
was founded in 1989 by Troy Teague of Roswell NM. Troy built a thriving business on the basic principle that “Lift tickets are expensive, but staying warm and dry shouldn’t be”. He catered to the families of west Texas who enjoyed skiing, but who also worked hard for their money and typically didn’t spend a small fortune on their hobbies. The store carried nothing but ski related apparel and accessories. The basics like jackets, pants, gloves, goggles, thermals, socks, hats, etc. The selection was focused primarily on the lower to mid priced brands, but took pride in having something for everyone. Troy worked long and hard trying to find those particular items which offered good quality but a great price. Business was great, and folks from all over west Texas and eastern New Mexico would make their annual pilgrimage to Troy’s to get outfitted before their ski trips. In 2003, after 14 long hard years, Troy retired and sold his business to Phillip Howard who resides in Lubbock.
Ski Lubbock Sports
was founded in 1969 by Lubbockites who were passionate about their sport. They created a store where the die hard winter enthusiast could go to find the best gear and the best expertise. They took pride in offering only the premier brands of equipment and apparel coveted by the advanced skiers of west Texas. They witnessed and participated in the birth of snowboarding and adapted their expertise and product selection to cater to all skiers and riders on the mountain. Over the years, the store changed owners and locations a few times. It survived the ups and downs in the economy and the ups and downs of the various ski seasons. In the early 80’s Lubbock had 4 different ski shops, all of which eventually went away, but Ski Lubbock survived. In 2012 Ski Lubbock was sold to Phillip Howard and was merged with Troy’s Ski Apparel to create Troy’s Ski Lubbock.
Troy’s Ski Lubbock
is the culmination of many years of hard work and experience in the snow sports industry. It is truly a unique store that offers all the benefits of a small, home town, specialty store (expertise, premier products, great selection) with the value and selection generally only found in the “Big Box” chain sporting goods stores. You can still walk in and find a $29 ski bib, or $19 snow boot, and everything your little one needs for their first ski trip. And you can also come in and find premier clothing and accessories from Burton, Spyder, Obermeyer, Oakley, Under Armour and Columbia Sportswear. You can peruse our selection of skis from Volkl, K2, Salomon and Nordica, or our boards from Burton, K2 and Never Summer. You can get your snowboard waxed or your skis sharpened or pick up some rental equipment for your next weekend trip to the slopes.
Wakeboards & Skateboards
were added to the product mix in the summer of 2014. Your favorite ski shop is now Lubbock’s only wakeboard shop and a fully stocked local skateboard shop! Troy’s has a long history of opening for the ski season and closing for the summer, but now they are open year-round and extending their offerings to the warmer months. Selling a broad range of wakeboards and lake accessories from RONIX, Liquid Force, O’brien and Straightline and clothing, boardshorts and swimwear from Billabong, Ripcurl, Under Armour, Columbia and RepYourWater, you are sure to find everything you need for that upcoming cruise or for the weekend on the lake. And for the skaters out there, Troy’s now offers an extensive selection of skate decks, longboards, wheels, trucks, bearings and much more from brands like Element, Enjoi, Goodwood, Venture, Independent, Sector 9 and many more!
